Nairo Quintana Net Worth 2013 – 2014: $900 Thousand
As a Colombian, nothing makes me more proud than seeing my fellow athletes dominate the most important sporting competitions in the world. Nairo Alexander Quintana Rojas is the perfect example of what hard work, dedication, determination, and discipline can do. The 24 year old professional Colombian cyclist was born in a humble home in Tunja, in the department of Boyacá, Colombia. His parents didn’t have a lot of money, but he never struggled as a child, in fact, his parents had enough to feed him well, and they were also able to save enough money in order to buy the young Nairo a mountain bike to go to school which was about 16 km away from home. Now you know why Quintana is so well prepared, he had to ride on a bike that weighed over 20 lbs all the way to school and back, about 32 km (almost 20 miles), every single day for many years of his life until he became the world class athlete that he is today.
Throughout all those years going from home to school and back riding on a really heavy mountain bike, Quintana soon realized that he had developed quite some skills and a lot of resistance as a cyclist. So when he was just 19 years of age he decided to try out for the national cycling team, his performance was exceptional, and he soon went on to compete in several international competitions where he had outstanding results.
Between 2010 and 2012 Nairo started to gain recognition as a professional cyclist by achieving the top spots in world class international competitions, and he also became a part of Spain’s famous professional cycling team “Movistar”. Back in those days Quintana won several important events such as the Tour of Porvenir and three Tour of l’Avenir. However, Nairo rose to fame and gained international recognition as a top-class cyclist after placing second in the 100th edition of the Tour de France in 2013, then he won the 35th Vuelta a Burgos and the Tour of San Luis in that same year. Finally, in June 2014, Quintana was able to do the impossible and accomplish something that no other Colombian cyclist had ever done before, he won the Giro d’Italia despite having a terrible fall and being sick with bronchitis, a feat which I personally considered inspirational.
How Much is Nairo Quintana Really Worth?
Well, for starters the guy gets paid by Movistar an annual salary of $90,000 Euros win or lose, his salary will probably skyrocket after winning the Giro d’italia and, if he wins la Vuelta España you can definitely expect an increase in his salary. In 2013 he earned somewhere around $200 thousand euros for placing second in the Tour de France, in 2014 he earned somewhere around $200,000 euros for winning the Giro d’Italia, plus he has won several other competitions that have earned him enough money to become a millionaire. We have come to the conclusion that the guy has a total fortune of $900 thousand dollars approximately.
Nairo is still very young, at his age most professional cyclists are just getting started, he’s already a champion, and most people think that this is the beginning of the Nairo Quintana era, so you can definitely expect his net worth to go up by a whole lot in the next couple of years.
Forbes Magazine has not ranked Quintana on their Highest Paid Athletes list yet, but don’t worry, because if Forbes ever decides to include the Colombian cycling star on one of their highly coveted lists, we will update this page and let you know about it as soon as it happens.
